Endings (Chrono Trigger) Chrono Trigger has a variety of endings, some of which can be minutely altered depending on game events. Below you can find how to activate each ending, as well as a short summary. The extra endings require a New Game + to view. All endings in the game are listed here; any others are merely rumors and do not exist.
This page describes all of the endings that you can see inChrono Trigger, with explanations of how to get each one. This pagecontains many spoilers.SummaryHere is a brief list of how to get each ending. Bad EndingHow to get it: Lose the game at almost any point. The only exceptions are whenLavos kills you in the Ocean Palace or if you die fighting Magus on NorthCape.Lavos bursts from the ground, shooting spikes everywhere.A group of people in theTruce dome command centersee that Porre, Choras, and Medina have all been destroyed.
Then their owndome is attacked and the director tells the operators to run away. Stunned,he stands there while the command center collapses around him. The planetis shown with explosions all over the surface, and it fades to black and white, with the message that 'the future refused to change.' Beyond TimeHow to get it: Defeat Lavos any time after resurrecting Crono. You can get an alternate version of this ending by using the gate in Lavosto return to the End of Time, then using Epoch to go to 1999 A.D.There are many other variations on this ending depending on choicesyou make during gameplay (explained in more detail below),so you'll want todo things differently in the New Game + to see everything.Cronois awakened in his room (where your Poyozo Doll and clone will be if youhave them) by a soldier from Guardia Castle. Crono is to be executed. Inthe throne room, the King and the Chancellor (or Pierre if you didn't freethe Chancellor) discuss Crono's fate.
Eventually, key figures from thevarious eras appear. The King knows Crono and his friends saved past, present, and future, and Crono is given a full pardon. You'll see the Moonlight Parade in Leene Square.
After a circuit around thesquare, you control Crono and Marle and can talk to people around thesquare, including Taban and Lara, who is either standing or sittingdepending upon whether Lucca changed history. To continue, go up to thetelepod. All the characters go back to their original time through the gate.Magus will be there if you didn't kill him.
If you killedMagus, Frog will be in human form as Glenn. If you didn't crash Epoch to reach Lavos, Crono's cat(s)and Mom disappearthrough thegate. A soldier summons you to the King, who (one screen down) unveilsNadia's bell. Marle doesn't hang around. Taban sets off fireworks andthe credits roll. You see Epoch flying around (looking for Crono's momand cat(s)) and it flies by various eras and scenes (again, Magus is shownif you didn't kill him).If you DID crash Epoch, Crono's cat(s) and mom don't appear at all. TheKing unveils the bell, Marle helps put it up but starts to float away withsome balloons.
Crono grabs on to her and the two float away together overthe world map and some clouds, and into the moon, as the credits roll.ReunionHow to get it: If you didn't resurrect Crono, defeat Lavos any time afterthe Black Omen appears.Everyone wakes up atthe End of Time. Talk to the old man and he'll warn you to return to your owntime before the gates all close. Walk around and talk to everybody, andMarle will urge everyone to save Crono, but they are more interested inreturning to their own time. There are several variations on what happens next, depending on whetheryou learned about the Time Egg from Gaspar already, and whether or notyou crashed Epoch. Marle goes to the Moonlight Parade and encountersGaspar and the other player characters. They depart to find Crono.Eventually, Marle makes it back to Death Peak, whereshe seesCrono's shadow and rushes up to meet him.The Dream ProjectHow to get it: Either defeat Lavos the first time you encounter it in theOcean Palace (probably impossible without a New Game + or some seriousleveling up), or defeat Lavosat the very beginning of the New Game +, using the sparkle in the telepod. As stated earlier, for an additional challenge, wait until Crono is byhimself before Marle uses the telepod.
This lets you face Lavos alone. This ending takes place at the End of Time. There are a bunch of people and characters around. Check them all:they're actually the game designers in disguse who say variousinteresting/funny things. To the left of the eight pillars is a spot you canstep on that takes you to the Magus statue, which has more to say.
If youwalk right and up from Epoch's dock, there are two more sprites. The eightpillars take you to different rooms, with more game designers in the formof sprites.Once you've talked to everyone, talk to the old man again and he unlocksSpekkio's room.
The door now leads to a chamber with the Dream Team.Talk to them all from left to right. The credits roll REALLY quickly ('sinceyou blew through the game so fast'), and 'The End' shows up.The Successor of GuardiaHow to get it: In a New Game +, after saving Queen Leene and rescuing Marle, use the telepod to fight Lavos. In this ending, you end up in Leene Square, and can walkaround and talk to people.
Everyone says strange things about Marlewearing a disguise, after which you hear a frog croaking sound. Go talkto the guards by the entrance and you find yourself in Guardia Castle. The King says some weird stuff, there's more croaking, and this time somehopping. He says he's found a wedding album from 600 A.D. You see thecredits, and an old movie of Leene and Frog getting married.Good NightHow to get it:After reaching Spekkio for the first time and successfully walking aroundhis room like he asks, talk to the old man at the End of Time. At thispoint you can get this ending. You can either fight Lavos immediately by using the bucket, or you cango through Heckran Cave to reach the sparkle in the telepod in Leene Square(since there is no pillar in the End of Time to Leene Square when youfirst arrive.)Just make sure not to go to 600 A.D. After going throughHeckran Cave if you want this ending. The credits roll and you see a Nu, afrog, and a Kilwala doing various silly things, and eventually all three fall asleep at the end.Legendary HeroHow to get it: Use the bucket or the telepod after you arrive in 600A.D.the second time (after going through Heckran Cave and learning aboutMagus).First, you see Roboemerging from a gate in a futuristic Leene Square, where he bumps intoAtropos.
Then they appear on a ledge in a DenadoroMountain type area (another ending suggests that this is actually a regionin 'the new future,' i.e. A hopeful future where Lavos never destroyed theEarth). Then the ending shifts to show Tata in the Guardia Castle throne room, with the King and a bunch of soldiers.
Tata leaves to confront Magus.

What a great advent for the gaming community. Sure, Pac-Man can be fun, but is it really fun to just keep playing until the game simply crashes on you? We, as a society, yearn for closure, and the endings provided in the games give us satisfaction, and they allow us to reflect back on our accomplishment, and realize that we have become the masters of our domain. We have taken this untamed beast of a game, and completed it, and the ending for the game is our great reward.Often, games may disappoint with their endings. A simple showing of the credits and little else (or that stupid 'That's Benjamin, you nut!' Line in FF: Mystic Quest).
Luckily for us, Chrono Trigger features a multitude of endings for our greedy selves. So I will list out all of the endings, as well as allow you to download each and every one for your Zsnes viewing pleasure. To make the save states work, change the name of the file to whatever the name of your ROM is. So if your rom is Chrono.smc, change the file name to Chrono.zst.If you want to just download all the endings in one zip file, click.#1-THE DREAM TEAMTo get this much fabled ending, start a New Game +, and when you get to Lucca's Teleportation thingamabobber, enter the right telepod and fight Lavos. Or you can kill Lavos in the Ocean Palace (when you're supposed to lose). This ending is great. You'll end up in the End of Time, and you can go around and talk to all the programmers who made this game. Once you've talked to everybody, go to Spekkio's room.#2-THE WEDDINGHead to the right Telepod (you have to be in New Game +) and fight Lavos right after rescuing Marle in AD 600 (the part where you're supposed to take Marle to the castle). You'll end up back at the fair.
Everybody will mention Marle 'wearing a disguise' or something to that effect. When you talk to your father, he'll show an old wedding movie, with Frog marrying one of Marle's ancestors (looks like Leene, but wasn't she already married?).#3-NU, RIBBIT, AND KILWALAYou'll get this ending if you defeat Lavos from the first time you arrive in The End of Time to the fight at Zenan Bridge. You like the 3 stooges?
